Latest News!

~NO, we haven't experienced any hurricanes here, not even a tropical storm. Praise the Lord! We do, however, have a gas shortage. We can only buy gas between 9am and 7pm during the week and not after 12pm on Saturday. The govts are fighting about money and petroleum. Please pray they resolve this quickly because this affects our electricity, which we've only had 3-4 hours a day recently.
~School is going well. Tonight we are having a parent-teacher-student meeting with 6th grade because they are such a bad class and parents are un-involved. 8th grade is gearing up for another car wash this Sat. and 7th grade is doing some awesome presentations in Math class.
~Small group in El Callejon is going well. Every week I spend more time with the girls and our relationships get deeper. Please pray that God would open them up to more discipleship and provide more leaders for this area.
~The Discipleship class I began on Sat is going well. We were assigned to read Matt-Phil for Oct 8th, which incidently is my birthday! It was awesome to read all four gospels in a matter of days. The faith of our ancestors!
~The English class I teach to members from my chruch is going well. They are a bit talkative (in spanish), but we are moving ahead and leaving embarassment behind. If you have any good activities for speaking, email me.
~I am doing well. In the midst of all this joyous work, I am finding time to be refreshed by the Lord and grow in my realtionship with him. Prayer has become vital to my life and moments of silence (even if for only minutes) bring peace. Love you all!

Wow, Emotional Jr Highers!

Well, another week come to an end. I still have two hours of English to teach, but that is minimal compared to an entire week. I am excited for this weekend because it will be the first Saturday of 9 months of discipleship class at my church. I began teaching an English class for young adults in the church. Please pray for this class and they would lose the fear they have of speaking in English. My days are flying by as they get busier and busier. Please pray for my ability to make time for the Lord in my life. For all of you that read this blog, please pray about coming with the work team that BPC will be sending in March. It will give you an awesome view of what my life is like here and how you can help.

My Update

Ok, since you know some of what I have been up to, I will share what God has been doing in my life lately. The last few weeks have been very full and busy; some might say stressful. I was journaling just this morning, whatever happened to those Saturdays where I woke up with absolutely nothing to do? Missionaries here say that when you first get here you have all the time in the world; hours and hours with nothing to do. Then you get busier and for like 30 seconds you have a balance of free time and busyness, but then after that it's always having to practice that boundary setting by saying no to the things you know God has not called you to.
I just finished the book Captivating by John & Stasi Eldridge. It was an amazing book and if you want to understand the feminine soul, read it. I am reading Wild at Heart by John Eldridge right now and it is just as good. God has really affirmed through reading these books, some of the things he has created in me. He has reminded me that it is okay to be dependent on Him; that's the way he created me.
Lately God has really called me to prayer, but at the same time convicting me that I pray without really believing. James 5:16-17 says that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. John 15 says that Jesus has chosen us and appointed us to go and bear fruit. It is a promise that we will bear fruit. It is a promise that our prayers will be powerful and effective. Our praying should come only with the conviction that God will listen, God will answer and God will transform. Sometimes the answer is not the one we want to hear, but He always answers. God has shown me that if I want to bring something before him in prayer, I better believe he's going to move and transform whatever it is. In Matthew 21: 22 Jesus says "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." ...If we believe...God help us to believe...

Sleepover!

On Friday night we had a sleepover with all the girls from 6th, 7th and 8th grade. It was awesome! These girls are so beautiful and I am so blessed to be able to watch God at work in there lives. Please continue to pray for them as they discover what it means to be a woman of God. Pray especially for Glenda. She is a new student from New York. She doesn't know the Lord and within 6 days of being here, already has a boyfriend who spends most of his time on the street. Don't forget to check out the rest of the pics through the link on the right!

First Cockroaches, then Spiders!

I was house-sitting for another missionary family, when I encountered this beast. I came home from a long day at work and walked into my room. As I was changing my clothes, I turned around and came face to face with this thing as big as the front part of my tennis shoe. I remembered from my science class that these tarantulas are neither poisonous nor aggressive. Nonetheless I didn't want to awake in the middle of the night with a giant tarantula on my face, so I decided to get it out of the room. First I threw a show at it and it did nothing, so then I pushed it with a broom out into the hallway. As we reached the hallway, the cat came walking by. I thought, "Phew, for sure the cat will attack it." No such luck. The cat just idly glanced at it and walked away. So I as I tried to push it outside it quickly darted into a closet and I locked it in there. Case solved.
